Will my Garden Grow?

Or not so much. Kind of slow, almost like it teasing me. The trees are much taller this year in the yard and my little veggie garden doesn't get as much light as the year before. Need to figure out what I'm doing wrong.

This is my garden so far. Most of it planted with seeds this year. May have to move my garden this fall.

Just watch a video from the The Rusted Garden about spraying it with epsom salt. May try it. His garden was so lush and beautiful. Wish my garden looked like that. Here's the link to cucumber maintance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_JhgtTcOFyU

Got the garlic chives from one of the chefs at the restaurant. She also gave a tomato, basil, mint and chiso. Have that in front of the house.

This was a last ditch effort with seed to see if I would get something. I just threw a bunch of seeds in a couple of pots and this is what I got. Going to transplant the flowers this weekend.

How does my garden grow?

All dress up in my gardening clogs
Pretty good considering the up and down temps, rain and my late start. But I'm keeping my hopes up with little seedlings coming up my garden. Thinking of getting a couple more plant to put pots to round out the line up.

So far the weeds are doing the best. Tons of wild strawberries in the lawn. They are green so I leave them. The berries are much bigger than last year, maybe they will taste better.

Spring is here!

But not. We got some flurry and a little dusting on the bushes and cars. Haha! what a tease. 70s on the weekend then a blast of cold air. Thank goodness I was way too lazy to do anything in the garden.

My indoor garden is so-so. My sprouted onions seems to be very unhappy. May put it outside this weekend to see if they will do better in. My romaine lettuce, started from a bottom, seems to be holding it's own. Not the best looking head of lettuce but okay. And my geraniums, started from seeds that my Mom toss in a pot, are still going.

I'm back. It's probably more than a month since i started this post and Spring is really here. The forsythia, cherry blossoms and daffodils have come and gone. And now it starts allergy season in full force. My car has a pale tinge of pollen green. Sneezing and itchy eyes are my morning wake up. Trying to be very diligent at taking care of my sinuses to avoid problems down the line. Ahaaa! Spring!

My indoor garden is in very bad shape. My onions and lettuce are done. I think they got fed up living inside. Oh well, I tried.

I keep not finishing this post because I didn't get any pictures of my garden. I finally planted seeds, a little late--a week after Mother's day. Here's picture what it look like last week.

Green stalks closest to you are green onions from last year and I don't know how they survived this past winter but they did and looks even better than last year. Haricot Vert seedlings from my Chef T and my garlic looking good. I planted cucumbers, swiss chard, manoa lettuce and soy beans. Everything seems to be sprouting except the cucumbers, may have to try again. And some critter is digging in the garden. I know it's those squirrels.

No flowers planted yet, Only bought a planter of petunias from the market because it was on sale. Hope to plant some zinnias seeds and some marigolds this weekend. Better pictures to come.

Saturday's Harvest

It's the end of July and my garden is not a bed of weeds! Hurrah!!!

Untitled

Today I harvested:
  • all of my manoa lettuce--8oz worth. Not bad for the weed whisperer
  • 4oz of swiss chard--they are still going strong
  • 2oz of assorted herbs--flat leaf parsley, basil and mint
  • pulled some carrot to test to see how they are doing.

And I planted:
  • row of manoa lettuce
  • row of beet--one more try
In my kitchen, I'm rooting some thai basil from some cutting from the restaurant. I hope to pot them tomorrow. I'm trying to root some celery, doesn't look too great.

Oh!I forgot I got 8oz. of tomatoes on Friday.

My Garden, My Breakfast

Untitled
So it's terribly hot and humid out and I think my garden is only thing that is enjoying it. I'm getting tomatoes, lettuce (manoa), flat leaf parsley and swiss chard. My beets not so good but I'm eating the greens. Waiting for my carrots. I just put in some scallions and will adding some thai basil, more lettuce seeds and beets seed soon.

As for my breakfast, I've been trying to cut down my carbs fro the last several months. I decided my breakfast this morning would be a salad with lettuce and swiss chard from my garden. Yum!

My breakfast salad with leftover salmon from dinner last night, red pepper, my homemade salsa  and harrisa and splash of balsamic dressing. Maybe next time I'll add a fried egg. My love of harrisa has been a slow rise but I'm definitely on bandwagon now. I love it in my salad.

Did I share last week's farmers market goodies.
My farmers market goodies
4 white peaches for some white peach cupcakes [as soon as the heat goes away] and 3 round squash to be stuffed with ground chicken and today's harvest of swiss chard. I'll try and get some picture of the process.

Oh yeah! WG bought more strawberries. Yes, 8 more lbs. The only thing I'm thinking of is ice cream at the moment. I just don't want to turn on the oven. I hope it ends soon.

The Garden Grows

The seeds are in and the fence is up and now the seedling are coming and my flowers are blooming. Wanted to give an update on the progress. I'm excited and hopefully I'll get some veggies this year. The next step is thinning and I think I'm going to try this thinning method I found at garden.org. Here's the link to the article: http://www.garden.org/articles/articles.php?q=show&id=620

How does my garden grow?

Untitled
Not very well at the moment. Remember that nice little garden my family help me put in last year. Well, it's currently grow a beautiful lush patch of weeds that the critters brought with them.

I even have a giant weed tree that refuse to die right next to my front door.

But now that I have the skilled gardening experts back at my house, I'm hoping to take advantage of their skill for a trade of jam and cake and maybe even some sweet potato doughnuts.
